The macOS Monterey 12.2.1 update can be downloaded from the Software Update section of System Preferences on all compatible Macs.

macOS Monterey 12.2.1, according to Apple’s release notes, fixes a fault that caused Bluetooth devices linked to Macs to waste an excessive amount of battery.

Following the release of the macOS Monterey 12.2 update in late January, MacRumors began receiving numerous reports from users who were experiencing excessive battery drain while in sleep mode, with the culprit appearing to be Bluetooth accessories that were waking up the Macs they were connected to frequently.

After applying the macOS 12.2 update, some users reported that their Mac’s battery life dropped from 100% to 0% when in sleep mode overnight, affecting both Intel-based and Apple silicon-based Macs. The problem was resolved by disabling Bluetooth or disconnecting Bluetooth gadgets from the Mac, which was not an optimal option for consumers.

Apple fixed the bug in macOS Monterey 12.3 beta 2 yesterday, so Mac users won’t have to wait for the full release of macOS Monterey 12.3 to get their Bluetooth battery depletion issues fixed.

macOS Monterey 12.2.1 also resolves a WebKit flaw that might allow arbitrary code execution via maliciously generated web content. Apple says it is aware of reports that the vulnerability has been aggressively exploited, so Mac customers should upgrade as soon as possible.

Finally, fresh versions of Safari 15.3 have been issued for macOS Big Sur and Catalina users, apparently to address the same WebKit vulnerability that was resolved in macOS Monterey 12.2.1.
