According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, WatchOS 9 low-power mode will have a new power-saving mode that will allow customers to use an Apple Watch and its applications and functionalities while conserving battery life. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is developing a slew of new features for watchOS 9. (86.4 percent accurate, via Bloomberg).

Here’s what you can expect from WatchOS 9 low-power mode later this year.

1: Improved atrial fibrillation detection “to calculate what is known as ‘burden,’ or how often a person is in a state of atrial fibrillation across a certain period”

2: The new low-power mode that allows you to still use parts of the watch while extending battery life…there is a power-reserve mode currently, but it only shows the time

3: “Many” existing watch faces will be updated (but no additional details are provided)

4: More pre-selectable workouts and “additional metrics” are also coming

5: Down the road, watchOS will also support satellite connectivity like on iPhone 14, but we don’t know exactly when

The Apple Watch now has a “Power Reserve” mode that restricts Apple Watch functionality to merely showing the time. Apple is hoping to bring Low Power Mode from the iPhone to the Apple Watch with watchOS 9, allowing users to enjoy applications and functionalities while conserving battery life.

The new functionality in WatchOS 9 low-power mode is part of Apple’s larger effort to enhance battery life on the Apple Watch, which has mostly remained unchanged over time.

According to Bloomberg, watchOS 9 will have a new atrial fibrillation detection tool that will measure how long an individual has been in a state of atrial fibrillation. From June 6 to June 10, Apple will show off iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, and WatchOS 9 low-power mode at WWDC.

In contrast to the anticipated hardware health features for future Apple Watch models, all of this seems really useful. The low-power mode will be a big hit, and I’d like to see some new watch faces. I’m also curious to see what new workout styles will be supported (give me a Frisbee workout, please). While I was disappointed with watchOS 8, it appears that watchOS 9 will be a breath of fresh air.
